Kathmandu, June 16 — Representatives from various ministries and yoga instructors met with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today ahead of the upcoming International Day of Yoga.
The meeting took place at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar. During the session, officials briefed the Prime Minister on the formation of the Yoga Day Celebration Main Committee. This committee, created across federal, provincial, and local levels, aims to organize grand celebrations for the day.
Prime Minister Oli emphasized the importance of making yoga a daily lifestyle practice. He also urged that yoga be promoted as part of the “Nirogi Nepal Abhiyan” (Healthy Nepal Campaign) to improve public health.
The delegation included Minister for Education, Science, and Technology Raghuji Panta; LP Bhanu Sharma, founder of the spiritual center Jeevan Bigyan; and Ramesh Nepal, a yoga instructor from the same organization.
The United Nations has designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The theme for 2025 is “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
The federal government formed the Main Celebration Committee on June 12, appointing Shiva Kumar Sapkota as its member secretary. Sapkota also attended the meeting with the Prime Minister today.
During the meeting, Minister Panta highlighted the need to promote yoga practice in schools and encouraged youth participation in the discipline.
